Before i start it appears that the issue has resolved itself, but I'm curious about potential causes or warning signs to watch out for.

Last week, I experienced a pleasant 40°C day in Melbourne while returning from a one-hour ride. While traveling at 100 km/h, I slowed down for typical Melbourne road works to approximately 60 km/h. When I attempted to accelerate back up, applying roughly 3/4 to 90% throttle, there was no response. It felt as if the bike had turned off suddenly or as if there was a blockage in the intake. It seemed like to enter a limp mode. However, the bike could still idle properly and slowly accelerate at around 10-20% throttle. I tested it again further up the road with the same result: no significant acceleration. It appeared to manage regular take-offs from first to second gear at 20% throttle, but any attempt at hard acceleration resulted in a cut-out. Has anyone encountered a similar issue before? Could it be a failing sensor? I've read about limp mode, but I understand this doesn't typically have one; instead, the ECU adjusts for faulty sensors or other issues.

This incident occurred a week ago. Since then, I've performed the 12-minute tune and taken it for a road test, during which it performed fine. There are no OBM errors, and the cooling fan operates as expected, kicking in at 103°C.

Could the high ambient temperature have been a factor in restricting acceleration?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to avoid being caught off guard by a similar issue in the future.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A loose MAP sensor tube can cause a lot of issues like that. Your description isn't necessarily exact to the typical symptoms but it;s similar. Check the 2 sensor pipes under the front right side of the tank with a flashlight and push them back onto the sensor nipple if they are off or loose. Likely loose not fully off or you;d still be having the issue. Heres a pic where B is the sensor and A is the tube.

Thanks for replying to me Dan, That looks all connected. I have had the MAP sensor issue twice before. The first time wasn't fun pulling into a servo (gas Station) and everyone thinking I stalled and then struggling to start and keep idle. That was 10 years ago and thanks to google was able to fix it on the side of the road.

Gday James, I've not heard of this one before. Three things I would try that are basic, battery connections, main earth connection, and pull your two ECU plugs, inspect the pins and plugs for corrosion, clean with contact cleaner and apply some dielectric grease.

They don't have limp mode. Do you have TuneEcu or Dealer Tool to check sensor values and throttle body balance etc?

If these don't rectify the issue then you will have to go through the systems and check connections, spark plugs, coil operations etc, or take it to a competent Triumph dealer.

Yeah will have to have a bit of a look into it. I was actually thinking the other day it could be the battery thats on it way out.

I remember I had an issue with an old Kawasaki where I was riding the local streets and was all fine for 15-20 min then as soon as i opened it on the freeway it died after about 10 sec and well couldn't get it started again.

So similar to the thunderbird was ok at holding the throttle but that bust of acceleration must have been enough to drain the battery enough for it to cut out. The battery is pre covid is probably nearly at the end of its normal life.

So i wonder if the 45min ride was enough for the battery to loose voltage or amps that there wasn't enough power for hard accelerating..

I had a similiar issues once on a rod trip. COuld not figure it out for the life of me. It ended up being a clogged up air filter and a 12 minute tune.
